House Government Contract
HOUSE LEADERSHIP REQUIREMENTS—ALL POSITIONS
Student government leaders must be in good standing which means they need to meet the following requirements: (identified on pages 16 and 17 of the Student Handbook). Student must be in good standing when submitting contract to run for a leadership position and must maintain these standards during her time as a leader.
- passing all classes with a minimum average of 75% as evidenced by quarterly report cards
- having fewer than 18 conduct points
- having no more than two tardies per quarter
- having fewer than five absences in a quarter
If a house leader (at any level) is in jeopardy of reaching the threshold in one of these areas, the student will be required to meet with the director of house government and her house dean. In some instances, the mentor teacher may be included in the meeting.
In addition, if a house leader is not meeting the expectations or responsibilities of her position, she will be required to meet with the director of house government, her dean, the campus minister (if she is a chaplain) and, in some cases, her mentor group teacher. Consequences could include dismissal from house government.
Other requirements and expectations:
- Attend all scheduled school and house meetings which are held before school on Mondays
- Attend a 3-day Leadership Summer Camp after the school year is over. Leadership camp dates for this year are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, May 26, 27 and 28. This is required of all students elected to a house leadership position for the first time. Attend a one-day workshop before the start of school. (required of all leaders).
- Attend at least two leadership activities planned throughout the school year, which will occur during assembly periods or after school. Required of all school leaders
- Meet the minimum dollar requirement for all school fundraising activities, including SHS Day and Car Raffle
- Have a willingness to be in front of house, class and mentor group to communicate effectively about all events and activities
- Will participate in all house activities and grade activities, including dance committees
- Work set up and clean up for dances, including the GGD, Christmas Dance, Prom, Freshman Dance and Sophomore Dance
- Must sign a contract to participate in house government
- All house leaders will participate in a semi-annual evaluation with the director of house government, their dean and/or their mentor group teacher.
SCHOOL CAPTAIN
School Captain: The school captain will serve and represent the students of Seton High School. Each house will elect one school captain to be representative for the benefit of all students at Seton. She must meet the requirements set forth by the school administration, the director of house government and the house deans to be eligible for office.
School Captains will:
- Report directly to the director of house government
- Have one year of House Government experience—in any position. Must be a senior
- Set house government goals for the year and oversee their implementation
- Promote overall school spirit with assistance from house captains, chaplains and mentor group captains
- Be responsible for morning announcements—PA and video
- Plan and execute all-school activities such as Green Week, Spirit Day and other events that are school wide
- Preside over school government meetings as directed; plan, compose and distribute agenda for meetings
- Attend school events held outside of school hours—athletics, musical performances, etc., morning rosary, liturgy, etc.
- Be responsible for all-school communications as they relate to house government
- Meet the requirements and expectations listed in House Leadership Requirements—All Positions
SCHOOL SPIRIT CAPTAIN
School Spirit Captain: The school spirit captain will serve and represent the students at Seton High School. The entire student body will elect two school spirit captains to represent and serve as the leaders of school spirit. The School Spirit Captain will represent the entire school and not show allegiance to her specific house when leading the cheers for assemblies or games. She represents what it means to be standout spirited Seton Saint both in and out of school by attending Seton functions, encouraging participation in school activities and fundraising initiatives with a positive attitude. She must meet the requirements set forth by the school administration, the director of house government and the house deans to be eligible for office.
School Spirit Captains will:
- Report directly to the director of house government
- Have one year of House Government experience—in any position. Must be a senior
- Collaborate with the four school captains to set house government goals and spirit goals for the year and oversee their implementation
- Lead overall school spirit with assistance from school captains, house captains, chaplains and mentor group captains
- Be responsible for charity games cheering section and other athletic events and musical performances
- Attend school activities such as morning rosary, liturgy, etc.
- Be responsible for morning announcements—PA and video
- Plan and execute all-school activities such as Green Week, Spirit Day and other events that are school wide
- Preside over school government meetings as directed; plan, compose and distribute agenda for meetings
- Be responsible for all-school spirit communications as they relate to house government
- Meet the requirements and expectations listed in House Leadership Requirements—All Positions
CHAPLAIN
Chaplain: There will be two chaplains from each house. Each will represent her house in campus ministry. Each chaplain will be elected by her respective house. She must meet the requirements set forth by and be in good standing with the administration, director of house government, campus minister, and house deans to be eligible for office. She must abide by all guidelines and requirements set forth in the student handbook.
Chaplains will:
- Represent her house at all school government, house and campus ministry meetings. This is a dual responsibility to both student government and campus ministry
- Attend Chaplain meetings with the Campus Minister every two weeks
- Inform house of campus ministry events
- Plan campus ministry events for her house, which may include all school events
- Plan all school campus ministry meetings
- Plan and coordinate the daily prayer for announcements
- Coordinate volunteers to lead the morning rosaries for predetermined dates
- Attend morning rosary, liturgy and other scheduled events
- Coordinate volunteers for the bimonthly morning mass for predetermined dates
- Perform duties for Mass, prayer services, rosary, etc. as directed by the Campus Minister
- Have approval of the Campus Ministry department to run for office
- Meet the requirements and expectations listed in House Leadership Requirements—All Positions
HOUSE CAPTAIN
House Captain: The house captain will be elected by her respective house and grade. One house captain will be elected for each grade by the students in that grade. She must meet the requirements set forth by the school administration, the director of house government and the house deans to be eligible for office.
House Captains will:
- Report to her dean and the director of house government when directed
- Assist in setting house goals and objectives for the year and help to execute them
- Promote overall house spirit by her actions and words
- Take initiative to suggest and plan house activities that will promote house spirit and morale
- Senior House Captains will have the responsibility of planning house government meetings and all-house meetings with her dean, big-little sister picnic, senior week
- Junior House Captains will have the responsibility of organizing student sign in for all charity events
- Sophomore and Freshman House Captains will assist school, senior and junior house captains as needed and requested
- Plan class meetings once or twice per year

MENTOR CAPTAIN
Mentor Captain: Two mentor captains will be elected/chosen in each mentor group. Students may self-nominate or be nominated by their mentor teacher(s). Mentor teachers will individually determine how mentor captains are selected for their mentor group. She must meet the requirements set forth by the school administration, the director of house government and the house deans to be eligible for office.
Mentor Captains will:
- Report to her mentor group teacher; and her dean and the director of house government when necessary
- Communicate to her mentor group all information presented at house meetings
- Initiate, plan and execute mentor group activities on a regular basis—including all long-bell Monday schedules
- Assist school captains, chaplains and house captains when required
- Meet the requirements and expectations listed in House Leadership Requirements—All Positions
- Maintain a mentor group calendar
