Testing Information

Academic Advisors, in collaboration with classroom teachers, oversee a school-wide testing program that is intended to be one of several means used to monitor students’ academic achievement and growth.

Test results are shared with students, parents and faculty, and used to guide students as they progress through Seton and plan for post-secondary options.

The testing program, which is aligned with the National ACT Standards for College and Career Readiness and the Common Core Standards, includes:

High School Placement Test

Eighth grade students take the High School Placement Test in November. It is one factor in determining course placement for freshman year and is used to determine scholarship eligibility.

PSAT

All tenth grade students, as well as junior student upon request, take this test in October. This test prepares students for the SAT, one of two college admission tests. This test is also the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

ACT and SAT

• The ACT test is given at Seton High School for all students beginning in a student’s Junior year and throughout a student’s Senior year. Students interested in taking the SAT should register at an off-site location.
• Seniors are encouraged to re-take these tests as necessary to improve their earlier scores.
• Some selective colleges require applicants to take one, two or three SAT Subject Tests. They are offered on the same dates as the SAT Reasoning Test and are offered in almost every subject area. See your Advisor for more information.

Advanced Placement (AP)

These tests are given in May and cover a variety of subject areas.

Seton offers a wide variety of Advanced Placement (AP) courses.  These courses follow a college level curriculum that enables students to earn college credit while enrolled in high school.  AP courses at Seton High School follow a standardized curriculum established by the College Board.  It is at the discretion of the individual course teacher whether students enrolled in AP courses are required to take AP exams, which are administered annually during the month of May.  A student interested in AP classes is strongly encouraged to ask the course teacher about the specific course requirements.  There is a fee for each AP exam.

End of Course Assessments

End of Course Assessments will also be given for students in Algebra I, Geometry, English I, English II, Biology, American History, and US Government as part of Ohio’s Graduation Requirements.

Test Preparation

Test preparation is given to all students beginning in their Freshman year and throughout their Senior year as part of the school day. Test preparation is grade-specific and coincides with the upcoming standardized test for that grade level.
