Seton High School was founded in 1853 at Mount St. Vincent Academy (Cedar Grove). On September 12, 1927, Cedar Grove reopened its doors as "Seton High School". Since our earliest days, we have maintained a strong commitment to faith, academic excellence, leadership and service.
Sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati, Seton has always provided the best possible Catholic high school experience to a diverse student body. Seton is fully accredited by the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges and is an active member of the National Catholic Education Association.
Seton High School, a Catholic community in the tradition of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, through the mission of the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati, develops a diverse population of young women for a life of faith, service and leadership and engages them in achieving academic excellence in a college preparatory environment.
Seton High School will be a learning environment in which students will grow and develop into young women who are influenced and guided by Catholic teaching and the mission of the Sisters of Charity. Seton students will be faith filled women, critical thinkers, and servant leaders prepared to transform the world in which they are destined to live. Seton High School will create and maintain systems and processes to ensure sustainability, while engaging with local and global communities.
Like Seton High School, our crest has a rich and storied past. The crosses come from the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. The plowshares represent the City of Cincinnati named after the Society of Cincinnati from Cincinnatus, the Roman farmer who became the famous general of Rome. The cedar trees symbolize Cedar Grove, the popular name of the academy established on our site in 1857. The wavy bars suggest the Ohio River and the Motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity at Mount St. Joseph on the Ohio. The three crescents are derived from the Seton Family Coat of Arms.
Gracious God, we know the heart of your being has a compassionate concern for all your creation and for all of your creatures. Through the intercession of your faithful disciple and our patroness, Elizabeth Ann Seton, let your loving hand be upon all who are sick and suffering in the Seton Community. Grant them healing, wisdom, courage and peace. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Seton High School is blessed with a wonderful Board of Directors. Thank you for giving of yourselves to make Seton a better place.
